myBarrister - Augusta Ventures
Press Release
20 October 2014
myBarrister signs exclusive partnership with Augusta Ventures to provide its direct access barristers with Augusta’s unique claimant financing product.
Barristers who have signed up to the UK’s leading direct access online portal myBarrister will be able to receive upfront part-payment of their fees in cases supported by litigation financing managed by hedge fund Augusta under an exclusive partnership signed today between myBarrister and Augusta Ventures.
myBarrister, which was set up in 2013, enables individuals and businesses seeking legal services to search for barristers directly online offering expertise in some 50 legal specialisations.
Augusta Ventures manages the TRINITY legal financing product, which provides a claimant with finance to pay the legal costs of their claim in return for a pre-agreed share of any damages awarded. Once Augusta Ventures has agreed to take on a case, the barrister is entitled to draw down up to 50 per cent of his or her fees and disbursements. Should the case be unsuccessful, the claimant’s, adverse cost exposure is covered under an insurance policy.
Ronald DeKoven, founder and CEO of myBarrister, said: “We are delighted to form a partnership with Augusta Ventures, which will alleviate the financial stress of people needing to litigate, as well as providing myBarrister partner barristers with the benefit that a significant portion of their fees will be underwritten from the moment they commence the case.”
He added: “myBarrister is facilitating the growing need for individuals and businesses to obtain quick, expert and cost-effective legal advice from the lawyers who do that best: barristers. With the financing now made available from Augusta Ventures, myBarrister is not only providing claimants access to some of the best legal minds in the market, but we are also enabling them to litigate where costs may be an issue”.
