myBarrister nominated for award by Crowdcube

myBarrister, the UK’s leading direct access online portal matching clients with barristers, has been shortlisted to receive an award by Crowdcube, the world’s leading investment crowdfunding platform. myBarrister has been nominated for the “Service Business of the Year” category.

myBarrister raised nearly £190,000 in a crowd-funding exercise in 2014, for a 3.75 per cent equity stake in the company. The company had originally sought to raise £150,000, and so easily met its target. The largest investment was £50,000, with 58 individual investors putting money into the venture.

myBarrister was launched in June 2013 to take advantage of regulatory changes that allow barristers to accept instructions directly from businesses and individuals, rather than exclusively through a solicitor. More than 100 barristers have already signed up to myBarrister, including a number of leading QCs. The target is to sign up barristers 1,000 within a year.
