UK and Chinese law firms sign strategic partnership
The UK-based law firm Memery Crystal and the Chinese law firm Yingke recently formed a strategic partnership at the same time as Yingke has opened a China Centre in London to promote and support investment in both directions between the two economies. The new partnership was launched with an event at the House of Lords on 19th November.
Memery Crystal acts for a broad range of clients, from individual entrepreneurs and owner-managed businesses to City institutions and multinational corporations. Yingke is one of China’s largest law firms, and has more than 4,000 lawyers in its 50 offices in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
The Yingke London China Centre is one of several centres that Yingke has opened around the world. Its aim is to promote mutual trade and investment, by identifying opportunities and facilitating transactions originated through the firm’s network of offices.
Memery Crystal CEO Lesley Gregory said: “In a rapidly evolving international market in which Memery Crystal is increasingly active, we are determined to offer inbound and outbound access to our clients and this, in conjunction with the new China Centre, delivers exactly that.”
Mei Xiangrong, global managing partner of Yingke, said, “As a firm with many international clients and constant involvement in cross-border transactions, we have established close relationships with professional service firms in financial centres around the world.” He added: “London is a major financial centre and Memery Crystal is a high-quality law firm with whom we are delighted to work exclusively.”
The centre is led by Yingke CEO Marie Li. Bijan Sedghi, an entrepreneur and former partner of law firms Edge & Ellison and Wragge & Co, is a non-executive director. He is also a consultant and non-executive director of Memery Crystal.
