Man accused of theft could make legal history after making his escape on a hoverboard

A man accused of stealing a crate of Lucozade while riding a hoverboard may make British legal history after being charged with offences including driving the gadget on a pavement, according to a report in The Guardian.

Omaree Lindsay, 19 is thought to face one of the first prosecutions under existing laws that ban the use of hoverboards, which are motorised two-wheelers, after he was allegedly filmed riding into a Co-op and out again carrying a crate of Lucozade.

He will appear at Wimbledon magistrates court on 30th December, charged with theft, failure to comply with a court order and driving a self-balancing scooter on a pavement.

Laws banning self-balancing scooters, including hoverboards and single-wheeled “monopods”, were introduced in October.
