Tom has extensive experience representing commercial landlords. His work in this is mainly focussed upon:
- Representation in the County Court and Lands Tribunal
- Claims involving the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954
- Forfeiture of leases (and applications for relief against forfeiture)
- Issues involving service charges
- Lease renewals
About me
Tom was called to the Bar of Inner Temple in 2000.
He is highly experienced in all aspects of Property Law. In recent years he has practised exclusively in the field of Landlord and Tenant Law, in both the residential and commercial spheres.
A long-term landlord himself, Tom is keen to find workable and commercially realistic solutions that avoid the need for costly and time-consuming litigation.
Tom is licenced by the Bar Council to accept instructions under the Direct Access Scheme. This means that members of the public can approach him directly, without the additional costs of engaging solicitors. Whilst Tom is supported by a Practice Manager, he does not have the extra burden of a formal clerking team. This means that he is consistently able to keep his costs lower than equivalent lawyers.
Under the Direct Access Scheme, Tom is able to provide advice and representation at all stages of proceedings (including pre-action).
What my clients say
V R, Direct Access client
Tom, you are an excellent advocate who I rate very highly and have often recommended to others in need of great advocacy skills.
S M, Direct Access client
A few years ago, I had enormous trouble with a tenant… I shall be forever grateful to Tom for his support at a very worrying time and strongly recommend his wisdom and understanding to other landlords. He is unusual in that he listens. He is good at the detail and provides strategic advice about the choices and consequences of any action. He specifies positive ways forward that have productive results.
J R, Direct Access client
I would like to repeat my heartfelt thanks for the excellent task you performed. Throughout the case you have performed admirably well, and my family and I are most grateful.
E C, Instructing Solicitor
I am grateful for all your kind assistance in this case which is greatly appreciated not only by me but also by Mr M. He can now get on with his life. He is extremely happy with the outcome especially that two previous barristers had advised him that there was no case to pursue!
