My approach
I have personal experience of attending the coroner's court and I know only too well what a difficult time it is for any family member experiencing the loss of a loved one. I am approach each case sensitively whilst providing my clients with clear and straightforward advice.
My work
Some examples of cases I have attended at the Coroner's Court:-
Representation of a mother whose son had been found to have died from a drug overdose – concerns raised that the police had not undertaken a thorough investigation of the circumstances.
Representation of a family whose father had died in hospital following a fall in a care home. Issues related to the fact that he suffered dementia and had a reduced swallow – his notes had not followed to the ward and the deceased subsequently choked on food that was not suitable for him as a result of his condition.
Representation of client in the inquest into the death of 5 of his family members in a car accident en-route to Skegness – Coroner’s findings that the road was in poor repair and contributed to the death.
Representation of the family in the inquest into the death of a dentist whose death had initially been considered murder but found to have been suicide.
Representation of the family in respect of the death of their mother who had died following known complications of surgery – concerns being raised that the hospital had not performed the correct surgery and post operative care was insufficient.
Representation of local NHS trust following the suicide of a patient with known mental health issues – concerns raised that the trust had failed to ensure a full package of care knowing he was at risk of suicide.
Representation of a father in the High Court who sought exhumation of his daughter’s body as he was not accepting of the conclusion of suicide.
About me
I have been a barrister since 2011. Born in Hull I spent most of my legal career in Hull. Upon joining the bar I practiced in Nottingham for 10 years before returning to my home town. I have a wealth of experience in all aspects of family law, but I consider assisting families at inquest particularly important.
In addition to my work as a barrister, I am a member of the board of trustees for the Northern Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) where I use my passion to assist young people in exploring their talents in the performing arts.
I am also the Secretary for Hull Incorporated Law Society.
